What we love about Innsbruck

Charlie

Marketing Director

For me Innsbruck is a fairy-tale city surrounded by the Alps and the endless ski slopes. I love to stroll along gorgeous facades in the middle of the city and then within a few minutes find myself hiking in the Alps.

Norbert

Operations Training Specialist

Innsbruck is by far my favorite town in Austria. A university town, 1/3 of the population are students, which gives the place a youthful feeling. In the winter, it's a real paradise for lovers of winter sports. For me, Innsbruck was love at first sight.

Things to do in Innsbruck

If you're anything like the Austrians, the main reason you're coming to Innsbruck is for the easy access to the Alps. With a funicular that will take you up into the lower reaches of the Alps, where you can connect to the panoramic cable car to the Seegrube where you'll feel like you're on top of the world and perfectly placed for a hike in the Nordkette (Northern Range) National Park. Back in the city we can arrange for a private walking or driving tour that will teach you about the history of Austria's alpine sports capital, tracing the footsteps of the Habsburg family that ruled the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Another popular self-guided day trip is a visit to the Swarovski Crystal World, a theme park dedicated to all things shiny about half an hour out of the city, and reachable by a company shuttle bus. When we send you your customized itinerary you will be able to choose additional excursions to include in your vacation package or consider for adding later.

Can I pay by card?

Credit cards are widely accepted in Innsbruck, but we still recommend having 20 EUR/person/day in cash. You can take out Euros from the ATMs in the entrances to banks, or exchange other currencies at exchange offices.

How can I get around Innsbruck?

Regardless of the number of excursions you plan to book with us, we recommend getting an Innsbruck Card, as it is a true all-inclusive tool for getting to know the city and its surroundings. Providing a round-trip ride to each of the peaks around the city, and unlimited use of public transportation, not to mention discounts for museums and attractions, this card is a good way to make sure you miss nothing, without having to empty your entire wallet. How and where can I eat well?

The abundance of Tyrolean cuisine will make you feel spoiled. While as meat-heavy as any other traditional Austrian cuisine, there are plenty of options for vegetarians, pescatarians, vegans, and more. we recommend seeking out cheese dumplings, donuts with savory fillings, and various apple-based desserts.

How long should I spend in Innsbruck?

Culture-seekers might be satisfied with one night, but this would make for a pretty intense time. Those longing to spend some time in nature, while enjoying Innsbruck's sights, should stay for two nights. The surrounding peaks, creative Winter Olympics complexes, and magnificent Swarovski Crystal World show that Innsbruck has plenty to offer.
