Frequently Asked Questions about travel to Graz
Can I pay by card?
Credit cards are widely accepted in Graz, but we still recommend having 20 EUR/person/day in cash. You can take out Euros from the ATMs in the entrances to banks, or exchange other currencies at exchange offices.
How can I get around Graz?
Graz's historic center is eminently walkable, but there are several exceptional lookout points within the city limits that are easily accessibly by cable car or funicular. Whether you decide to add any of our excursions to your trip or not, we recommend buying a Graz Card. This pass offers plenty, from free public transportation to big discounts for museums and other attractions, not to mention bike rental.
When are the local shops and cultural hotspots open?
Graz's museums are generally open from 10 AM to at least 6 PM, but are usually closed on Mondays and public holidays. Concert halls offer acoustic experiences nearly every day. Shops open from the early morning until around 8 PM but close on Sundays. Souvenir shops await guests year round, but close in the late afternoon. Some restaurants close on Mondays. Graz has multiple farmer's markets, offering local goods daily, save for Sundays and holidays.
Is Graz safe?
Like any other place in Austria, Graz is very safe.
Where and how can I eat well?
Here in the heart of Styria, you can eat well almost anywhere! Along with famous dishes, you'll find carp, zander (pike-perch), and other fish on many menus, served with barley and polenta. Sweet and savory takes on pumpkin can also be found in seemingly endless combinations, so if you've had enough strudel, try a pumpkin croissant. Austrian cuisine may be heavy, but in Graz, it's quite healthy, both for yourself and for the environment.
How long should I spend in Graz?
We recommend at least an overnight stay with a city tour or Graz Card. If you arrive by private transfer, be sure to make some stops en route, to get to know the surrounding region, Styria.
