A seaside paradise on the Bay of Naples with views of Vesuvius
Perched on cliffs at the south western end of the Sorrentine peninsula you'll find the seaside town of Sorrento. Although lacking the signature colorful-buildings-on-steep-hillside aesthetic of Positano, the most popular of the Amalfi Coast towns, Sorrento has plenty to recommend it. Sorrento's history dates back to the Romans, with ruins to prove it and some architectural gems to discover. Wandering the cobbled lanes of the Centro Storico you'll come across picturesque calm piazzas, spectacular churches and more than a few palazzos, all interspersed with Sorrento's signature antique shops.
Route for Sorrento tour
Sorrento's more than just a convenient place to stay. With a sizeable population this is not just a holiday town, so you'll enjoy all the advantages of major town life, which in Italy means excellent trattorias frequented by locals and some first class gelaterias. Pizza's definitely on the menu in Sorrento – you can see Naples right across the bay! If you're watching your waistline (though we'd have to question why you came to Italy) there's excellent seafood to be had as well.
