Custom tour packagesCesky Krumlov

Cesky Krumlov (pronounced CHES-kee KROOM-lohv) is the second-most visited town in the Czech Republic, and for good reason. Step back in time with a visit to this UNESCO-listed town surrounded by unspoiled countryside. Cesky Krumlov is the prime exemplar of a medieval Bohemian village. The town centers around the castle, which has more than 300 rooms and is the second largest castle in the Czech Republic. The center of Cesky Krumlov, with the Vltava river running through it, is a labyrinth of cobblestone alleyways. There are cozy hotels and pensions, and delightful shops and restaurants. No matter where you are, all of Cesky Krumlov's highlights are no more than a five-minute walk away.

An exquisite medieval jewel. Cesky Krumlov is a town full of charm, with a fairytale atmosphere.

Cesky Krumlov is a city with plenty of nature nearby. Set amongst hilly green countryside, it's an ideal place for outdoor activities. You could enjoy hiking, biking, horseback riding, and even golfing. Weather permitting, you shouldn't miss a canoe or rafting trip on the Vltava. Cesky Krumlov is also a city of culture and art. It has seven museums and four galleries, as well as festivals taking place year round. The city also has its own brewery. The local brew is served around town in traditional taverns and restaurants where you can enjoy hearty Czech dishes in a classic setting. In recent years Cesky Krumlov's popularity as a day trip destination has begun to overwhelm the small town. For this reason we advise against day-tripping here. Instead you should spend at least a night. You'll get to enjoy the town after the crowds depart and again before they arrive the next day.

Oh, Cesky Krumlov, why are you so far from Budapest? This is easily my favourite Czech town, as whenever I go there it always takes my breath away. The narrow medieval-like streets, cobblestones, insanely beautiful view from the Castle, and of course, the Vltava River, on which we always arrive when participating in a rafting tour. Lest I forget, the best beer I've had in my life was in Cesky Krumlov!

Frequently Asked Questionsabout Travel to Cesky Krumlov

Should I just take a day trip to Cesky Krumlov?

During peak season (April through October) we strongly discourage stopping in Cesky Krumlov during a transfer or taking a day trip there from Prague, Vienna, or Salzburg. You'll be joining thousands of other day-trippers who pack the medieval town's narrow streets and make for a decidedly unpleasant experience. We can suggest other stops along alternate routes, particularly between Vienna and Prague, that will be both interesting and less crowded. It is for this reason we usually suggest at least one night in Cesky Krumlov, so you can admire the city after the day trippers leave and before they arrive again in the morning.

How do you say Cesky Krumlov?
With its Czech accented characters, it's spelled Český Krumlov. In Czech a capital C with a 'háček' (Č) is pronounced like ch in chocolate and a y with an acute accent is a long y. Impress the locals by pronouncing it Ches-kee Kroom-lov
