When you think of Bordeaux, the first thing that inevitably comes to mind is wine. Yet the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Port of the Moon, as the historic center of Bordeaux is otherwise known, is also a city of exceptional architecture and rich history. Designed by 18th-century architects and town planners, Bordeaux is one of the finest examples of neoclassical architecture. With more than 350 historic landmarks and monuments, Bordeaux is second only to Paris with regard to the number of registered monuments it hosts.

And then there is the wine. The Bordeaux area includes 65 wine-producing areas across 112,000 hectares of a fabulous terroir that produces hundreds of millions of bottles annually. From everyday table wine to the best-quality wines in the world, the Bordeaux blends speak to the hearts and taste buds of all. The city's amazing wine bars are among the best places to sample the famous French claret. But it is also possible to discover the incredible diversity of Bordeaux's wines with a visit to an authentic cellar or the Cité du Vin, the city's stunning museum where you can enjoy unique wine-related experiences.
