Various rock churches are spread across the region, and there is still a robust pottery tradition that flourishes here. The central town of Goreme is a good jumping-off point, with easy access to the Goreme Open Air Museum and various hiking routes, while the towns of Uchisar, Avanos, Urgup, and Ortahisar are also interesting places to stay and explore. Cappadocia is the perfect place to hop in a car-- or on a mountain bike, or on your own two feet-- and experience all the wonder the region has to offer.

How long should I stay in Cappadocia?
You can see most of the highlights of the Cappadocia region in two or three days. The region is large and there are abundant hiking trails, as well as cave churches and underground cities to explore. You should set aside one morning to experience the iconic hot air balloons that float over the landscape.
When is the best time to visit Cappadocia?
Spring and autumn are the best seasons to visit Cappadocia, when the air is mild-to-hot during the day and the nights are cool. Summer can be very hot in Cappadocia. While winter might not be ideal weather for hiking, Cappadocia under snow is very beautiful and many visitors prefer to come during the winter months for these views.
Is Cappadocia safe?
Cappadocia is very safe. The region is uncrowded and laid back, and very hospitable to tourists. The hiking trails are quiet and isolated, so be careful to follow safe hiking practices, but the routes are popular and trails are usually pretty clear and easy to follow.
How do I get around Cappadocia?
The easiest way to get around Cappadocia is to rent a car, as the areas of interest are quite far apart and the public transportation network is minimal. Most of the bus routes go through Goreme, the main city in the region. There are taxis available as well, especially around Goreme, as well as some minibus routes.
