Naples might be an acquired taste, and it's probably not where you should start your Italian travels, but it's got an energy and magic all its own, which you'll get to discover over the course of a week, both up close, and by spending time on every locals favorite island, Ischia.
We've started this itinerary by going straight to Ischia, on the assumption that your flight home will be too early to make all the way from Ischia, which is an hour away by ferry. If that's not the case then this itinerary can absolutely be done in reverse. As it stands, from Naples airport you'll be whisked directly to the ferry terminal for a short hydrofoil ride to Ischia. Over the course of four days you'll learn why the Neapolitans treat it as their quick summer getaway. Overlooked by jetsetters heading to spendy neighbor Capri, Ischia is a comfortable island that's easy to get around and thanks to its appeal to Italians, rich in excellent restaurants. You might even want to extend your Italian-style summer vacation a few days!
Back in Naples, we've included a walking tour with a local guide who'll show you the true beauty of one of Italy's oldest cities. On your last day, take your pick of the various ways to experience Mt Vesuvius.

Day 1 Day Stop in Naples / Arrival in Ischia
To call Naples rough around the edges would be quite the understatement. Yet amidst the chaos and beneath the grime is one of Italy's true gems. It's the third-largest city in the country, home to over three million people. An important port city for all the civilizations that have existed there, Naples is the original melting pot. Founded as Neapolis (literally "new city") by the Greeks in the 7th century B.C., Naples has many layers of history for you to discover.Upon arrival to Naples International Airport, our driver will be waiting for your at the arrivals and will take you to your the ferry terminal in Naples.Time to swap busy Naples for the quiet island of Ischia. A driver will meet you at your accommodations and take you to the port where you'll board a ferry to Ischia (tickets provided). This journey takes 1.5 hours.Less than 20 miles off the coast of vibrant Naples, Ischia is an underrated gem waiting to be discovered. An island of volcanic origin, Ischia is known for its thermal springs and spas. It's also a heaven of manicured gardens and turquoise waters, home to an imposing Aragonese Castle that feels like the setting of a period fantasy film. Still untouched by the effects of mass tourism, Ischia represents everything that is unique about Italy but without the crowds and overpriced services of nearby islands.Once you arrive to Ischia port, our driver will wait for you and take you to your accommodation.Day 2 Your First Full Day in Ischia
Charming Ischia
Ischia is one of the most beautiful Italian islands; surprisingly it became a popular tourist destination in the 1950s and it is now one of the most charming places to visit in the Mediterranean. The main elements that contribute to this charm are its stunning bays, in particular Sorgeto bay, and the beautiful beaches; there are also several hot springs, perfect to relax surrounded by a great view. One of the most characteristic parts of the island is the burg of Sant'Angelo in Ischia, a pedestrian zone with colorful houses and a very peaceful atmosphere.
Day 3 Your Second Full Day in Ischia
See Ischia By Boat
Unless you suffer from sea sickness, there's no better way to see Ischia than by boat. We will arrange a whole day private boat trip with a skipper, and everything except food included. You'll meet your skipper at the most convenient harbor for you, around 10 am and spend the day circumnavigating the island by boat. You'll get a local's take on their island, showing you hidden coves and other treats along the way. Ischia's a huge favorite of Charlie, our Marketing Director, and he says this is the best thing to do when you're in Ischia.Included in your vacation package price
Day 4 Your Third Full Day in Ischia
Hikes and Views
As with the nearby Amalfi Coast, Ischia presents a great opportunity for beautiful hikes. There are many walking and hiking trails criss-crossing the island, all offering stunning views of the island and the surrounding sea. One of the best hikes takes you up Mt. Epomeo, Ischia's highest mountain. Once you arrive at the top, you will be rewarded with gorgeous views of the sea, the neighboring Islands of Procida and Capri, and even the Gulf of Naples. Enjoy them while recharging at the local restaurant and bar. The trek itself is a beautiful experience too, as you will be surrounded by stunning Mediterranean plants for the whole length of the journey. Even though this hike might be a little challenging, it is definitely suitable for people with an average fitness level.
