Itinerary

1. Day 1 Arrival in Munich

   With its traditional beer halls, designer shops, trendy restaurants and international business, Munich is a mix of old and new, German and cosmopolitan. Largely rebuilt after World War II, the city still retains its old world charm, even in the midst of expansion and modernization. You’ve probably heard of the city’s world famous Oktobertfest, a once-in-a-lifetime party dedicated to that incredible Bavarian beer along with some of the local delicacies, including tasty schnitzel. But there’s much more to Munich than drinking, and on your holiday you’ll have the chance to discover the best this charming city has to offer. Don’t miss out on the beer halls and the breweries, but be sure to get off the beaten path to discover a Munich of your own. Much of the city’s past centers around World War II, and there are several ways you can explore this chapter of Munich’s history, including a day trip to the Dachau concentration camp and a special tour focusing on Hitler and the local activities of the Third Reich. Munich is also a center of industry and there is nowhere better to experience this than BMW World. Moving slightly farther afield, Neuschwanstein Castle makes the perfect day trip, perched high in the hills over a verdant valley. Munich’s variety means there’s more than enough to satisfy even the most diverse groups of travelers. Let your curiosity guide you as you explore this unique German city.

   First Night, First Beers

   When in Munich, drink as the locals do. Munich has certainly earned its title as “Beer Capital of the World,” so what could be a better activity for your first night than going to one of its famed beer halls, meeting locals, and hearing their stories? If you’re the teetotalling type or raucous beer halls aren’t your thing, you can take a nice walk down Neuhauser Strasse, followed by the Kaufingerstrasse, leading to the city’s most famous square, the Marienplatz, with its magnificent city hall, the Neues Rathaus.

2. Day 2 Your First Full Day in Munich

Explore this magnificent city during your walking tour and get involved in the daily life of the locals as well.    Oktoberfest, Year-Round

   Gathering knowledge with a pint of beer in your hand? That's possible! And where else but in Munich? Learn about centuries of brewing, spiced with intrigue and turf wars, and the commitment to traditions which make Bavarian beer so famous. The Oktoberfest Museum awaits you with long opening hours, great beers, and giant pretzels. If you are not into taking a guided beer tour, we still recommend visiting this museum to learn about this special Bavarian festival and more.

3. Day 3 Your Second Full Day in Munich

   

   See the Skyline from Inside the Bavaria Statue

   Theresienwiese is best known as the spot where Oktoberfest and other festivals are held. Looking over the grounds is grand "Bavaria," the personification of the German state. This 60-foot bronze statue of a woman with her left arm raised is flanked by a loyal woman. For a small fee, you can duck inside, and climb the winding stairs within. At the top, you can peer out from Bavaria's head, taking in views of the Oktoberfest grounds and Munich's skyline beyond. Complete with pillow-topped bronze sofas, the statue's interior features surprisingly whimsical touches.

   Hike the Alps

   Munich is inseparably connected to the Alps. If you're an active traveler, you shouldn't miss the chance to hike in the Bavarian Alps. The landscapes are lush, the valleys are full with hidden pastures, dairy farms, and huts, and you can head for ruined castles and well-preserved monasteries when the weather refuses to cooperate. There are a range of different hikes on offer, some easier hikes, some more challenging, to provide a fun, memorable day, no matter the weather.

4. Day 4 Traveling to Nuremberg by Train / Arrival in Nuremberg

   You're off to Nuremberg today. We'll include standard class train tickets in your package for one of the regular high-speed (just over an hour) services from Munich to Nuremberg. If you'd prefer an upgrade for the 1st class, we can arrange that for an additional fee. We have included a transfer directly from your accommodations to the train station, which should take 15 minutes at most.

   Nuremberg in northern Bavaria is famous for its well-preserved medieval architecture and delicious local food. Head to the Old Town to see its houses, stone towers, and fortifications, and to marvel at the Schöner Brunnen ("Beautiful Fountain") located in the "Hauptmarkt" main square. Kaiserburg castle is the most famous place to visit here, with its impressive insight into the city's history. But, there is so much more to Nuremberg; this is a lively modern city with lots of interesting museums, different festivals and events and a great variety of international cuisine. Even among Germans, the city is known for its beer, sausages, and gingerbread, so come hungry!

   Upon your arrival to the Nuremberg Hauptbahnhof (Main Railway Station), a driver will be waiting for you with either your name or a JayWay logo and will take you to your accommodations. The duration of the drive is around 20 minutes.

   

   Climb the Castle Hill

   After getting settled, we recommend ascending through the city to the imposing castle at one end of the historic center. The castle and the neighboring city walls are considered one of the most imposing medieval fortifications in Europe. In contrast, the castle itself offers the best view of the city and its preserved center. Be sure to check out the castle gardens, which are a quiet retreat from the bustle of the city.

5. Day 5 Your First Full Day in Nuremberg

   

   Old Town Group Walking Tour

   This two-hour walking tour will show you the best of Old Town Nuremberg. In a short time you'll get your bearings in the city and come to a better understanding of its history and culture. This very informative tour with an expert local guide will give you a new appreciation for this fabulous destination.

   Beautiful Bamberg

   Untouched by WWII's bombs, the UNESCO-listed town of Bamberg offers authentic beauty and charm. The Old Town Hall, the most famous sight in the town, sits on its own island in the River Regnitz. Together with rows of half-timbered, steep-sloped, colorful houses, it creates the town's "Little Venice." The Cathedral, exhibiting late Romanesque and early Gothic styles, dominates the skyline of the town and houses the beautifully carved marble tomb of Pope Clement II. Bamberg is also known for its special smoked beer, especially that produced by the Schlenkerla brewery, a great place for a hearty Franconian lunch. From Nuremberg, Bamberg is a 40-minute train ride, with departures roughly every hour.

6. Day 6 Traveling to Prague by Private Transfer / Arrival in Prague

   

   Today you will be traveling from Nuremberg to Prague. A driver will pick you up from your accommodations in Nuremberg based on your preferred departure time and will bring you to Prague. On the way, you will stop in Pilsen, the capital of beer, for a guided tour and the Pilsner Urquell Brewery visit. The whole journey including the stop in Pilsen takes around 6.5 hours. The vehicle used for your transfer will be a standard sedan, station wagon, or minivan. We can arrange for an upgrade to a more luxurious class of vehicle for an extra fee.

   “The Golden City,” “The City of 100 Spires,” “The Mother of Cities,” Prague has no shortage of nicknames paying homage to its charm and beauty. Prague’s winding cobblestone streets, gorgeous architecture and atmospheric bridges are fabled. Get up early and stroll across the statue-lined Charles Bridge. Soak it from the magnificent Old Town Square with its 600-year old astronomical clock. From exploring history and modern culture on foot, to traveling farther afield to take in the picturesque countryside and fairytale villages, you’ll have an itinerary full of adventure and relaxation. Besides the city’s history, evident on every street, especially in the beautifully preserved former Jewish Quarter, you can delve into the city’s gastronomy. You can literally dive into some of Europe’s best beers by visiting a beer spa, or explore its beloved breweries with walking tours, or enjoy a dinner cruise. Day-trip destinations include scenic castles, the perfect spa town, and Kutna Hora with its “bone church” and gothic cathedral. Prague is a city of history that comes to life for every visitor, no matter their interests.

   Local Breweries and Letna Park

   After your arrival, grab a refreshment in one of Prague's breweries. If you seek classics, try out the black beer at one of the city's oldest breweries, U Fleků. Some of Prague's many highlights are its monastery brews. Visit the country's oldest, St. Adalbert's (Sv. Vojtech) in the Brevnov district, which dates back to 993. The floating "Loď Pivovar" ("The Ship") is a tour boat converted into a brewery. If you need to stretch your legs after a long flight, stroll through the Letna park and enjoy a glass of beer with an amazing view of Prague Old Town.

7. Day 7 Your First Full Day in Prague

   

   Get to Know Prague on a City Walking Tour

   Today you will be exploring the hidden streets and main sites of Prague's historical center. Your local tour guide will walk you through the medieval Royal Route while showing you the Old Town Square with Astronomical Clock, Jewish Quarter, Charles Bridge, and Lesser Town. You will learn a lot about past and present life and also get tips on further activities and places worth visiting. This walking tour is the best way to fall in love with Prague.

8. Day 8 Your Second Full Day in Prague

   

   Beer Spa Private Experience

   Prague is a city of beer, but the "liquid gold" is not there only to be drunk. During this unique experience, you will have an exclusive access to a beer spa where you will be able to soak yourself in a large tub for two filled with warm water and beer extract mixture. After the bath you will retreat to the rejuvenation room where you can rest for another 30 minutes and let your body absorb the healing effects of the beer spa. Get ready to relax!

9. Day 9 Traveling to Berlin by Train / Arrival in Berlin

   

   Berlin's energy awaits you today following a lovely 5-hour train ride through the Czech and German countryside. There are a few departures daily between the two capitals so we will book second class tickets and reserved seats based on your choice of departure time. A driver will be arranged to pick you up at your accommodation and take you to the train station. We can also arrange first class tickets for an additional fee though in our experience there is little difference, other than proximity to the dining car if available, between the two types of carriage.

   
   

   We can also arrange a private car and driver for an extra fee. They'll pick you up at your Prague accommodation and deliver you straight to your accommodation in Berlin or for a small extra cost, a stop for some sightseeing in Dresden along the way. This gives you a bit more comfort and flexibility, as well as saves travel time.

   A vibrant cosmopolitan city that’s rich in history and contemporary culture, Berlin is constantly evolving. From the ruins of World War II to the Cold War division of the Berlin wall, Berlin has always managed to rebuild. Germany's largest city, this sprawling (by European standards) metropolis has excellent public transportation, from subways to an official rowboat ferry. You’ll find a little of everything here, from history to high gastronomy, art museums to palaces, and plenty of lively bars and nightclubs. The nightlife here is world-class, but there’s more than enough to see during the day. Berlin is made up of distinctive neighborhoods, each with a different character. We recommend several ways of exploring the city, from a Cold War walking tour to a bike tour to see all the must-see sights in a simple and easy way. An exploration of the long and volatile history of Jewish culture in the city is eye-opening as Jewish life in Berlin has been meticulously documented. Many of the city’s art and culture museums offer unforgettable glimpses into history. Potsdam offers the perfect diversion for an afternoon, and Sanssouci Palace, with its well-tended gardens, is a beautiful reminder of the city’s impressive past. The past comes alive in Berlin, but the present is very much alive as well.

   Where to Wander on Day One?

   It can be hard to decide how to spend your first hours in Berlin, since the city offers so much for every personal preference. If you’d like to see the city’s more artistic and hip side, we recommend focusing on the district of Kreuzberg, southeast of the city’s Mitte (“middle”) district. If you’d prefer to stay within walking distance of your hotel, we suggest focusing on the area around Hackescher Markt, north of Museum Island, or heading to Alexanderplatz, where you’ll find the city’s best view from atop its signature TV tower. 10. Day 10 Your First Full Day in Berlin

    Enjoy a three hour walking tour of Berlin as part of a group. Your guide will introduce you to this surprisingly diverse capital, share some interesting facts and stories and give you further recommendations if asked. Being part of the group will also give you the chance to learn more about the fellow participants suggestions for Berlin.

    Palatial Potsdam

    Potsdam is a cultural and architectural epicenter that's well worth a visit. Since it's only 30 minutes from Berlin's center by train (the two cities share a border), don't hesitate to visit this relaxed but palatial town. We suggest a walk through the historic part of Potsdam to the gardens containing former royal palaces like Sanssouci, the home of Friedrich the Great. There are plenty of places to relax and areas to explore. And if you are more adventurous, you can also rent a bike in Berlin and take it with you for this day trip.

11. Day 11 Your Second Full Day in Berlin
