Saint-Malo is the perfect case study of a European city developed around a medieval transit system when access by foot or animal was the status quo. Like a stone ship stranded in the sea, the ramparts of Saint-Malo stand above its beaches and port for centuries on end. From the ramparts, the view of the port, the beaches, and the islands of Grand Bé and Petit Bé is astonishing. Saint-Malo witnesses one of the largest differences between high and low tides in the world. On high tides, the quaint city can be battered by fierce waves, a fearsome but also irresistible sight to behold. At low tide, after crossing the beautiful seawater pool built in 1937 and reaching the beach of Bon Secours where many locals hunt seafood, it is possible to walk as far as the islands of Grand Bé and Petit Bé.

Stepping through the doors of the city to venture out to the surrounding countryside and discover the treasures of the coast with its beautiful beaches and preserved environment is simply magical. For more mundane pleasures, enjoying the famous Sarrazin crepe with its inseparable cider in a traditional crêperie is a trip in itself.
